Incidence and profile of benign epithelial tumors of salivary glands from a single center in Northeast of Brazil

Background Benign tumors of the salivary glands are a group of lesions with varied histopathological and clinical spectrum. The aim was to determine the incidence and clinicopathological characteristics of benign salivary gland neoplasms diagnosed between 2007 and 2016 in a single center located in northeastern Brazil. Material and Methods Records regarding sex, age, anatomical location, histopathological subtype and treatment were retrieved, and data were analyzed using the Stata/IC software (version 12.0). Thymoma and pure red cell aplasia in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus.

We present the case of a female patient with a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) at the age of 54 years. At the age of 63 years, she suffered from malignant thymoma and 3 years after removal of the thymoma a diagnosis of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) was established. This is, to our knowledge, the first report of the occurrence of SLE, thymoma and PRCA in the same patient. The case is discussed with regard to the already known associations between these diseases.

In this study, we describe the synthesis of new nortopsentin analogues, 1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine derivatives and their biological effects in experimental models of diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM), a rare and rapidly fatal disease, poorly responsive to conventional therapies. AbstractUsing a data mining approach for the discovery of new targets for antibody therapy of colon cancer, we identified MS4A12, a sequence homologue of CD20. We show that MS4A12 is a cell surface protein. Expression analysis and immunohistochemistry revealed MS4A12 to be a colonic epithelial cell lineage gene confined to the apical membrane of colonocytes with strict transcriptional repression in all other normal tissue types. In previous work we established the rat liver oval cell line OC/CDE 22 in order to study in vitro mechanisms of liver cell transformation. We have now exposed OC/CDE 22 cells to each of the four optically active fjord region dihydrodiol epoxides of benzo[c]phenanthrene to investigate their capacity for malignant transformation of liver cells.
